We build front entrances, walkways, and patios either wet laid on concrete or dry laid on gravel base.

At Ideal Garden Concept, we put strong emphasis on using local, Ontario-quarried stone. Owen Sound, Wiarton, Credit Valley, and Ebel are the major types of natural stones found in the Southwestern Ontario region. Sandblasted, flamed, leathered or polished finishes are examples of available finishes styles. All flagstone are carefully selected at our trusted, reputable suppliers.

An other option is precast concrete pavers, also known as interlock pavers. This method uses a modular system of concrete bricks installed on a compacted gravel surface that stabilizes the stones. These pavers recreate the look of natural stone (random or square-cut patterns), cobblestone, tile, and brick pavers. They come in a wide range of textures and colours to suit the preferred style.

Our construction skills also apply to the installation of rockery stone, retaining walls and water features.

The installation of these products requires heavier equipment. Thus, there must be careful consideration for space, access, and scope of work before commencing.

Woodworking, sheds, cabanas, landscape lighting, irrigation and pools are elements outside of our scope of work. We work in conjunction with other companies to include them in your project.

If the hardscape is the backbone of a landscape, the softscape – living elements, such as gardens, plantings, and turf – is the dressing; the icing, the gravy on top. It is the beautification of a space: a good planting design is like a black and white photo coming to life. With over 30 years of experience in planting, and keeping in-the-know about current and upcoming trends, Ideal combines timeless classics with new and exciting species to create a finished space.

Our primary goal in garden design is to create a green space that adds value and improves curb appeal while being easy to maintain. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as “maintenance-free”, but we can get pretty close by designing with low-maintenance plant schemes. We also like to see what is called four-season interest, by making sure there is something happening all-year long. Flowering times are spread out, and we include many species that are evergreen or provide winter interest in other ways; such as dried flower panicles, berries, or even interesting bark.

Quite often established landscapes simply need to be updated or “freshened up”, as opposed to a complete overhaul of the yard. If there is a good foundation, we will try and work with as much existing material as possible and add to it. We do lawn repairs and renewals both minor and major, either by sod or seed, or using artificial turf.

Fall and Spring Cleanups

Spring Cleanups:

• Pruning of trees and shrubs to remove dead, damaged, or diseased material

• Any perennials, such as ornamental grasses, will be cut to ground level

• Raking and removing leaves, branches, and other debris from lawn and garden beds

• Any ties or burlap used to winterize trees and shrubs will be removed

• Inspection of all plants to assess damages from winter and overall health

• Cultivating, edging, and weeding of garden beds as required

• Mulching and fertilization as required
